Lace Comes in All Shapes and Sizes and is a Fascinating Art!
Here are some ideas I have for incorporating lace into my books. I look for lace in every thrift store I go in. I look for lace in garments, sewing supplies and notions, lace displays, lace by the yard, doilies, table runners…..I go to estate sales, yard sales, online sales, and free cycle pickup. At my dad’s old home place that we disbanded some 30 years ago, I was able to pick up boxes of old table clothes, handmade doilies, lace collections, bits of fabrics, parts of garments that had been altered, and those Victorian lacy doilies that were attached at the top of wing back chairs. When I went to Bruges, Belgium, a mecca of handmade laces, I indulged in some of their designs. One of my favorites is Battenburg lace, very popular in the US in the 1800’s. Battenburg lace is the sewing together and tatting of various strips or tapes/ribboned fabric. It is an American designed lace.
