Favorite Items I Use - Basics to Get Started Making a Journal by Hand
(I am not an amazon associates affiliate)
There are multiple themes, color combinations, ephemera, paper, fabric, trims, ribbon, cardstock plus many more youtube videos to get started on making a handmade journal! Many can be found in junk stores, thriftshops, estate sales…and more. Even finding used clothing and recycling the patterns, accent, adornments to create is a great find. I have found, for me, old magazines, used books, and ideas from Tim Holtz’s Compendium of Curiosities to be very helpful. I tend to look for vintage or ‘antique’ looks in creating, others might find whimsy to suit them better, or items from the 40’s or 50’s, old Sears Catalogs, early Life magazines, advertisements from those times in history.. The ideas are numerous and so so much fun! I hope you’ll find ideas from my website to give you creative energy!
All Things Tim Holtz!
The Sargent Art brand is my pick
This is small and fits easily into my embroidery bag
Use with acrylic paints for tags and junk journal pages
Practice painting and drawing ideas
These are indespensible
Getting stuck in our chairs for hours on end w/o taking a ‘walk around the house’ break every 30 minutes can reek havoc on the legs/ankles!
Thanks to Aleene’s we’re happy with her, but there are others to use depending on the project!
All Things Tim Holtz - this is my favorite of his packs, Wallflower!
Karen Kay Buckley scissors/shears just for fabric
I glean ideas from a number of authors, this is a great one
Well deserved gift to yourself!
For adding lavender to and cutting down to heart shapes
I love the small ones, I purchase the re-inkers in the colors which is a big savings
This flattens nice and neat when placing images onto pages
Many glue-rs use fabric tak for everything!
Just small fabric stacks work so well for creating pages, pockets, tags, embellishments
Embroidering hoop for stitchwork
Found this author recommended, wonderful ideas
Welcoming different perspectives
Using this with acrylic paints mixed with gel medium for a smoothed texture and color variety
Can never have enough! Having one per color saves time!
This is the 65 lb weight which works well for downloading etsy sellers digitals for pages in the junk journals, for me, not for tags, I get at least 100 lb for tags
